Aircraft Class selection

The aircraft noise class, for jet aircraft, is one of the categories I, II, III, IV or V, of which the noisiest aircraft are in class I and the least noisy aircraft are in class V. For various reasons, the classifications of a small number of jet aircraft are not confirmed, so are left blank.

Propeller aircraft with a Maximum Take-off Weight (MTOW) of more than 5,700 kg are also subject to noise charges, but are normally considered as similar to jet aircraft in class V. For simplicity, these are put into an extra class VI.

Propeller aircraft of less than 5,700 kg are charged according to a classification of how much noise they actually make. This classification is divided into four categories: A, B, C and D, where class D is the most quiet. All aircraft registered in Switzerland are allotted this appropriate noise-related fee class, and then they pay a noise fee according to this class and to the MTOW rounded up to the nearest 1,000 kg (one ton). Thus, the Beech 58 Baron aircraft HB-GJO has been put into class C, with a MTOW in tons rounded up to 3, so its noise class appears here as C3.

Selection of a particular noise class is done by choosing one of these noise classes. If preceded by a minus sign then the aircraft in that noise category will be not selected: in such cases the selected aircraft will be thosein all other categories, plus ones of unknown noise class.
