Flight selection

This is a field to allow selection of a particular flight, or group of flights, according to the actual flight numbers that appear on the airport web site or in timetables. To do this we have built up a list of what flight numbers correspond to what flights.

All flights are given a flight number, which is most often either the 3-letter ICAO airline code or the 2-character IATA code. As an example, the two codes for Swiss Airlines are SWR and LX (the airport information system uses LX), whilst the two codes for easyJet Switzerland are EZS and DS respectively (the airport information system uses EZY). In specifying the flight, either of the codes may be entered in this flight selection.

The selection can only find flights by the code of the airline offering the flight, not by code-shares.

The simplest entry consists of just an airline code, ICAO or IATA. Thus, "SWR" and "LX" are equivalent, and will select all flights of Swiss Airlines. For easyJet Switzerland, "EZS" and "DS" are equivalent, as are "EZY" and "U2" for easyJet United Kingdom.

Since some flights to particular places may sometimes be either of the two easyJet companies, the two can be combined with "EZ[SY]" (EZ followed by either S or Z). An alternative which usually works is "EZ.", but this is less precise.

The code of the airline can then be followed by the actual flight number, which is usually a number of two, three or four digits. Thus, the first Swiss Airlines flight from Zurich to Geneva is LX2800, whilst that of easyJet Switzerland from Gatwick to Geneva is EZY8462.

To select a group of flights, fiollow the flight by a comma and then a higher flight number. Thus, all Swiss Airlines flights between Geneva and Zurich are in the range 2800-2819, so to select them all, just use "LX2800,2819". If you want actually only the flights from Zurick to Geneva, follow this with ",2" , i.e. "SWR2800,2819,2". This works because, like almost all companies, even numbers go one way and odd numbers go the other way!

To find all easyJet flights to Gatwick is slightly more complicated, because some operate as EZY, others as EZS. No problem, though: just enter "EZ[SY]8463,8485,2". Simple!

To put a minus sign before the selection actually works, but is not normally very useful!
