Movement Noise Charges

Swiss airports inpose noise charges according to the noise class of the aircraft, whether it is landing or taking off and at what time of the day or night (night flights may be subject to an extra surcharge).

The current aircraft noise classification of jet aircraft was set back in the year 2000. By around 2010 almost all of the movements at Geneva airport were made by jet aircraft in the least noisy class (class V).

There will shortly be a new aircraft classification, which will come into operation in Zurich in 2013 and in Geneva in 2014. At the same time, the scale of noise charges will be modified.

In reality, the noise charges at Zurich have long been different from those in Geneva, in particular for incoming night flights, and already in 2011 Zurich doubled the charges for the noisy aircraft in classes I and II.

There are thus five pairs of noise charge and classification which can be chosen when wishing to see how much various aircraft would pay. What they actually pay is the set for Geneva 2001, whilst what they will payfrom April 2014 is the set Geneva 2014. To see what they would have paid in Zurich, there are three sets : Zurich 2001, Zurich 2011 (doubling of charges for classes I and II) and Zurich 2013.

IMPORTANT : the Zurich 2013 charges may not yet be absolutely finalised!
