Movement Airport

Sometimes, for aircraft which send out their actual position (have a GPS system which sends out their latitude and longitude), it is possible to calculate how far away from Geneva airport they are whan they land or take off, even if we do not actually register any transponder transmissions on the ground.

The most common case of this is landings, and sometimes takeoffs, at Chambéry airport. At some future time, with the next version of the movement detection program, it will be possible to have a list of airports within the range where it is possible to capture transponder transmissions, and therefore to idedntify the airport. However, for the moment there is just the choice of all movements, just those at Geneva or just those not at Geneva.

Remember, however, that many aircraft do not give out this location information, so we really do not know. Such aircraft can be recognised by the fact that there is no movement runway indication.
